It's a New Year, and this year is special for us, being the International Year of Astronomy 2009, celebrating the 400th anniversary of the use of an astronomical telescope by Galileo. NSAS has plans to be involved in a number of local events related to IYA2009, so anyone interested is welcome to come to a monthly meeting to hear how they can become involved in NSAS and IYA2009.

The January General Meeting will be Tuesday the 20th at 7:30 PM, St. Ignatius. The speaker will be Duane Hamacher from Macquarie Uni, who will talk on "Searching for Transiting Extrasolar Planets: how amateurs can make significant contributions".
